Wm. May Author
Some kids are born writers. From grade school master pieces to high school newspaper articles, they have their sights set on journalism. Not me. I was too busy practicing music, acting, dance and voice.

I didn't set out to be an Author. But along the way I met teachers who influenced my very being and steered me in that direction. First was a music teacher who taught me discipline and the thrill of perfection. Then an esteemed English literature professor, who made Shakespeare's words jump off the page, intrigued me enough that I went on to see all 37 of the bard's plays live on stage. The entire cannon - including the bad ones.

Next was a drama teacher who allowed me the thrill of performing and an elderly Dance Mistress who demanded I dance and let it be known that men who danced were not sissy's but instead sweaty athletes in disguise.

Professor Bannister

In college I met a professor who profoundly changed my life by requiring me to master words and the art of communication that goes with them. He was a  cantankerous and crafty old coot (his words, not mine). He really wasn't in the business of teaching writing but, rather, the craft of setting goals and pounding on them until they gave way to the strength of one's will. Mine was not the only spirit he man-handled.

He convinced me (and a many others) to pursue a career in advertising. In my case, as an copywriter. From there I founded my own advertising agency, recording studio and music production company. Later that passion for starting companies let to Investment Banking. At every stage of my business career writing things down and making them understanding and fascinating became my hallmark.

In the business of writing

Mostly my compositions have been confined to the usually boring archives of business. I have written everything from business plans (that were actually comprehensible), to policies and procedures (that were actually used) to training manuals (that actually taught something). I was forced to learn more about law than I cared but came away knowing that most in that career use words to deceive rather than to illuminate.

In recent years I have turned back to writing and all that attaches to it; including speaking, teaching, training and motivating. I have produced a number of books, designed productivity tools, and developed classes. Plus I have found the need to stand up in front of others to make sure my ideas get sold and accepted. I also put out personal articles every now that have generated passionate feed back and discussion.

Writing for results

With my return to creative arts my focus has taken an about face. Today, I concentrate on those areas of business that make the biggest difference for my client companies; subjects like Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations and all areas of Sales. After 18 years in Investment Banking I have never analyzed a Business that had achieved its full sales potential. That why it is now my goal to help organizations solve the thorny challenge of Marketing. To make their revenue go up and up. I do that with good communications and the lost art of writing for clarity, creativity and results.

What it means for clients

Although there were kids in school destined to be writers, most people do not, or can not, write with precision and persuasion. That's where I come in. For clients who need writing and creativity to effect good marketing, I produce big, bold, bright work. I do copyrighting, articles, speeches, plans and more. All for reasonable prices and upon predictable deadlines.

If you need help with your Marketing and Sales you'll want to know more. Take a look at my bibliography and references and then contact me for further information. No obligation, of course.

Unfortunately, many of the business writing projects I undertake are confidential so I can't post them here. But there are a few articles, business and personal, you might find revealing. Here they are:
